In the ‘womb’ of freedom

With the recent increase in women’s empowerment in India, ironically there has also been an increase in crimes against women. What will it take for a woman to feel safe in our country again?

We call India ‘Mother Earth’. Does such an expression really include abusing women and domestic violence against women? From  the past two weeks, crimes against women have been  increasing and curb the freedom of women in the city day by day. The only keywords we hear and read about are as follows: Murder, rape, assault, trauma, infringement, violence, eve-teasing, etc.

Delhi has never been considered the safest city in our country. There are reality shows like ‘Gumraah - The End of Innocence’, ‘Crime Patrol’, among others, that focus on the dismal conditions of women in the city.

In a recent case a Spanish woman was raped and then robbed. However, the person who committed the crime is already out of jail and poses as a threat to other women he’s in contact with. We never know when a crime can happen.

We want women to be free but on our own terms; that then is not freedom, but merely the illusion of it.
Something to think about:
“Every woman who thinks she is the only victim of violence has to know that there are many more.”
– Salma Hayek

“Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
–Eleanor Roosevelt

“If the numbers we see in domestic violence were applied to terrorism or gang violence, the entire country would be up in arms, and it would be the lead story on the news every night.”
–  Mark Green
